Rock, he's smooth like a cello, and he's going to drop a
bomb in your ego - Overlord X bust a style make you wanna
smile. Well, smile I did and still am to the lyrical
turmoil of the bad mothers and hard clubbers of the X
posse - 13 years on and the albums are still fresh as
ever. Just leave your guns, spliffs and suppression at the
door and get your Reeboks on down to the best rapper that
the planet Hackney ever produced ....
Overlord X, a.k.a. Benjamin Balogun, came out
of a 16th storey flat in a Leyton tower block to bust up UK rap in 1988.
Together with London's famous X Posse - featuring the likes of Supreme
T and Midrange - and a host of weird and wonderful partners in rhyme
like Sidekick and Lord V - two groundbreaking albums : "Weapon Is My Lyric" and "X Versus The World" were classic slices of urban hip hop. The style
was like Silver Bullet meeting Public Enemy on the streets of London
- slickly produced beats, rhymes and attitude.
