"X Posse - Project X" 1989

Here's one from the vaults...A little present for you all for 2004. Chronologically inbetween the two main X albums and following in the style of "Terminator X in the Valley Of The Jeep Beats" comes the X-Posse's very own album.....enjoy!

X-Posse Theme
X at his best - alone in the studio. Sad to say but this is my favourite track on the whole album because the production is classic X. Shame about the rubbish which follows. For now, at least, enjoy a tuff bit of street beats and a tantalising glimpse of what UK hip hop could have been if it wasn't (allegedly) shafted by Westwood.

Kickin It Live
Shit. The backing track is great, but who knows or cares who Freski Dames is or was? Just wait till you hear the lyric "give no respect to a man who's a homo". "Sharper than Columbo". Er, no. This is an insult to rap.

The X and The V
Back on track with everyones favourite double act - streetwise X and downright scary V tell it like it is. This is a portent of the tight rhymes to come with X & V on "X Versus The World". Once more they are unsure about beating racism and achieving peace - maybe they should have a word with Freski Dames about homophobia too.

X Army
Lovely beats - X hasn't lost his touch on the freeform production tip - man I wish I knew where he found his beats - one of the X Posse works the lyrics while DJ Vietnam works the wax. Tough.

Aint Got The Time
Regular X-Posse collaborator Kandy - (who needs to have a word with Latifah if she thinks she is the Queen of Hip-Hop) grabs the mic and impresses us with her timekeeping.

Return Of The Breaks
X steps back from the faders and lets his deejays work it out - nice one. Old school hip-hop and scratches galore! I don't know how many decks are on the go but it's all here - trademark dub pressure on the beats, funk samples. Nice.

Project X
Stingray gets the title track. Shit.

I Got Talent
Yes - Midrange does not dissapoint - the militant rocker brings it on over a tuff beat to shake your bassbins. This track would have been great were it not bookended by shit tracks. Midrange had talent, but some of his X Posse co-conspirators needed to do their street homework....

Suckers
Mysteriously sounds like X. But whoever "Sam" is - apart from a touch of comedy at the end of the track, this just didn't do anything for me. Sorry Posse.

X-Posse Resprisal

Wait for it - exactly the same as the opening track. There's no excuse for this - maybe they ran out of studio time, I don't know, but when you spend your cash on a record then, sure, you might not like all the tracks - but duplicating tracks ??

A disappointing end to a mediocre album.
