The Second Album - "X Versus The World"

Lord Vader has received his orders to serve once more for the supreme commander - Overlord X ! Aboard their mothership our brave crew have come back in time by 410 years. Fully a decade before Star Wars fans were shocked by the addition of Jar Jar Binks - 'X fans now have to contend with the addition of Sidekick to the crew - but no matter - the Overlord has graduated from his street degree and has been working on this - his masters' thesis. Stunning artwork, rapping and sampling reminiscent of "Fear Of A Black Planet" - 'X, V and Sidekick proceed to give Chuck D and Flavor Flav a run for their money with this epic ...... cue Ennio Morricone .....

Prologue 1990

'X looks confused in the picture and well he should - over whether he's armed or not ! After letting us know in no uncertain terms that his weapon is his lyric on the last album - he proceeds to remind us that he's had to arm himself this time - but then starts playing Chuck D saying "can I tell 'em that I really never had a gun" - anyway, the rapping comes on slick and fast - the crew are back and they mean business .....

Predator

More posturing and production - supreme T has been practising his scratchin as 'X lets rip once more - warning other crews about the bomb he's going to put in their egos .....

"brand new licks with a high standard - it's Overlord X, not Smokey and The Bandit"

You Ought To Get Rushed

Watch out Cypress Hill - here come the X posse, and they've been buying James Brown records - plus the odd bit of Public Enemy and Eric B 'n' Rakim - even Mr Hendrix isn't safe from the supreme commander and his Reeboks as he rails against the evils of spliff....

"drug pusher, reefer hooker - they're the raw meat, X is the cooker"

Planet Hackney

Electro beats, old-school hits, James Bond samples and Africa Bambaata as 'X reminds us where he's from and where he's at .... supreme T now has the last 'X album on vinyl as well to play with ..... great stuff ......

X Versus The World

Hot three-way action as 'X and Midrange are joined by Candy as the crew hoist some rhymes up the flagpole ....

"smooth like a cello, my colour's not yellow, to your ladies I say hello"

Tell Yer Crew I'm Comin

Overlord makes sure that other crews, and radio stations, are aware of his presence ...

"I got a grip like my lockjaw's biting"

Prelude

The crew take time out to reflect on times past, present and future as Supreme T tells the story of some of the choice cuts from the last album, and gives us a glimpse of what is yet to come, all over the haunting music that runs through "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" - it's a great linking device to the last album, if a little confusing for those not of a temporal bent as he's scratching with tracks we haven't heard yet .... let's just hope the track can end before it starts sampling itself and turns into a black hole of instrumental hip-hop .....

Definition

'X on his own, laying out his pitch against violence, bad rapping and cannabis.....

"carry a tool - you ain't cool - ride the hearse - definition of the universe"

Suppression

X unleashes his lyrical fury and gives us a note of optimism in the face of the opressor.

"be proud to be black - and you're not supressed"

The Untouchable

What a dream track - David Mamet writes, Kev Costner speaks, Overlord 'X samples - throw in a bit of Soul2Soul and you have pure dynamite - tuff beats as 'X and his crew get busy, Elliott Ness style .....

"no lack of collaboration in my formation"

Powerhouse

'X, V and Sidekick extoll the virtues of equality and clubbing with a lyrical deftness that could teach Chuck D and Flavor Flav a thing or two ..... watch out for Sidekick reading out the credits at the end .... great stuff ....

"the house is full - stuffed like a Paxo"

Lyrical Turmoil

The mike gets passed round the X posse - if they've finished drinking their Five Alive - so they can introduce themselves and display their talent for freestyle ....

"Jack The Ripper ain't nothing but a kipper to the Overlord"

You Can't Do It In London

'X finishes where he started - in Hackney - and rails against bad men with guns whilst getting in a dig at NWA - swapping "Yeah, Compton" for "Yeah, London"

"I'm a brother - you're a sucker with no I.Q."

X Keeps Turning

CD-Only track with no associated artwork - 'X comin on strong with advice for teenagers

O.X. Corral

Another CD bonus track - this time the crimefighting X posse have set themselves up in business as Dread-X Criminal Fighters ! It's a hilarious excuse to wheel out Ennio yet again - the royalties they must be paying him must be the reason the Posse have had to moonlight in this way - Overlord mans the radio as 007 Bond and Supreme T radio in updates on the days' vigilante action against fake rappers .... watch out Will Smith !

"Rhyme missionary - I think it's necessary - to have the honour to slaughter and bury"
